Afraid of my Child

When I arrived in rural Pennsylvania, all I had been told was the episode’s title – Afraid of my Child – and at first glance the young man in question appeared to live up to his advance billing. My game plan going in was to befriend him so he didn’t feel the deck was stacked against him. But as the day moved on and my interviews unfolded, I began to see his world from his eyes. I just hoped that the empathetic viewpoint I tried to capture would make it on the air.
So it was a moment of great personal satisfaction when I saw the direction Dr. Phil took the segment. I didn’t always agreed with the approach he took with my people – but this time he was spot on.
